Music stars Raye and Becky Hill to perform at Birmingham 2022 Beach Volleyball tournament

International singer-songwriter Raye and British singer Becky Hill will both perform at the Birmingham 2022 Beach Volleyball this week.

Ray will be performing at the Smithfield site on Thursday 4 August with a live set which will be available exclusively to Beach Volleyball ticket holders.

Her performance comes as part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games cultural offer which will also see music artist Becky Hill take to the stage tomorrow on Wednesday 3 August; both showcasing their talents at the end of the 14:30 sessions on each day.

Raye and Becky Hill are amongst a number of performers to feature in the Smithfield Festival, part of the Birmingham 2022 Festival cultural celebrations which run alongside the Games and are free for the public to enjoy. The chart-topping singers are can be seen at the Smithfield site – home to the Beach Volleyball and the 3×3 Basketball and Wheelchair Basketball.

Their highly-anticipated sets follow world-renowned DJ Jax Jones who played at the Smithfield site ahead of the Beach Volleyball on Saturday 30 July.

Raye is an English singer and songwriter. In 2016, she had her breakthrough by featuring on the singles “By Your Side” by Jonas Blue and “You Don’t Know Me” by Jax Jones. Raye was shortlisted for the BBC Music Sound of… Award for 2017, has seven top 20 singles to her name, four Brit award nominations and more than 1 billion global streams.

Becky Hill rose to prominence after appearing on the first series of TV talent contest The Voice UK. Earlier this year, she received two Brit Awards nominations, including British Song of the Year for “Remember” with David Guetta, and Best Dance Act, which she won. Over the weekend, she performed at the Euro 2022 final.

One of two major Festival Sites hosted in Birmingham’s city centre – Smithfield and Victoria Square – the Smithfield site will host a festival of festivals with a different cultural partner taking to the specially commissioned three-sided Beacon Stage every single day, as well as DJ sets and live performances to accompany the Games.

The Smithfield cultural offer includes daily performances from acclaimed dance-circus ensemble Motionhouse, a new inflatable art installation inspired by Spaghetti Junction and screenings of new films, music videos and digital commissions screening throughout the day.

Smithfield’s Beacon Stage features DJs from BBC Asian Network, Selextorhood, who champion and empower women and gender minority DJs, MADE Festival, Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul, and Break Mission and Eric Scutaro. A closing dance party will also take place on 7 August for the final day of the Festival Site.

The place to be this summer, Smithfield will bring everyone together to celebrate the best of British and Commonwealth culture and provide a perfect accompaniment to the world-class sporting events on show.

Continuing the summer of sport, music and celebration of the many vibrant and diverse cultures across the Commonwealth, the Festival programme is full of events that will bring sport and culture together, including a star-studded cast of live music, entertainment and special events.

Festival Sites are free to access and will include live performances, entertainment and special events, as well as giant screens where people can gather to watch the sporting action. Creative, loud and celebratory, the programme is full of events that will bring sport and culture together.

Across August, the festival fun will include Swingamajig, featuring the sounds and styles of the 1920s, DJs from BBC Asian Network, Selextorhood, who champion and empower women and gender minority DJs, MADE Festival, Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul, and Break Mission and Eric Scutaro. They will all take turns to take over Smithfield’s Beacon Stage, entertaining the thousands of people expected to flock to the Festival Site.

There will also be a closing dance party on 7 August – a special party for the final day of the Festival Site.
