Family appeal for witnesses after pensioner hit and killed by black Mercedes in Rowley Regis

An elderly man who tragically died after he was hit by a car in Rowley Regis on Saturday (5 Sept) afternoon has been named as Harry Williams.

Mr Williams’ family has joined police investigators in appealing for witnesses to the fatal incident which took place around 2.25pm in the High Street.

The 80-year-old pedestrian was struck by a black car on Saturday afternoon in Rowley Regis.

Mr Williams was treated at the scene for a head injury after the car crashed into him. He was later transferred to hospital by paramedics. Sadly, his injuries proved fatal and he died the following day (Sunday).

His family issued a statement saying they have been left “devastated by the sudden loss of Harry and need to understand what happened”.

The family are asking anyone with any information or CCTV footage to contact police investigators. They are also requesting that their privacy be respected at this dreadful time as they deal with grief.

Sergeant Julie Lyman, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Williams’ family and friends, and our focus is on establishing exactly what happened.

“The driver of the car, a black Mercedes, remained at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.

“As our investigations continue, we’d also ask anyone who was in the area at around the time of the collision and has any information, CCTV or dash cam footage, to contact us.”
