Two men charged with murder of Birmingham nightclub stabbing victim Cody Fisher

Police have charged two men with the murder of Cody Fisher, who was fatally stabbed at a nightclub in Birmingham on Boxing Day.

Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, have been charged with murder and affray, West Midlands Police announced in a statement this evening.

According to the force, the pair from Birmingham have been remanded into custody to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday (2 January).

A 22-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of 23-year-old Fisher’s murder but has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.

Cody Fisher Stabbing

Cody Fisher was stabbed on the dance floor of the Crane nightclub in Digbeth, and the venue has since had its licence suspended.

A post mortem held following the incident confirmed that local footballer Fisher had died of a stab wound, and a knife has been recovered as part of the investigation.

Victim Cody Fisher was a regional football player, playing left back in local non-league football around Birmingham and also for Stratford Town and Stourbridge.

His death was met with an outpouring of messaged os sadness and sympathy online from those who knew and supported him.

Det Insp Michelle Thurgood, leading the investigation, said of the incident: “This was a young man enjoying himself with friends on a Boxing Day night out” and that “the victim was approached by a group of people, and was then stabbed.”

“We know there were hundreds of people in the nightclub at the time. While we’ve spoken to a number of them already, we still need to hear from anyone who was there and who witnessed or even filmed what happened,” she added.

Alongside Kami Carpenter and Remy Gordon being charged with Cody Fisher’s murder, four other people arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on bail as our investigation continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Ingram, from West Midlands Police’s homicide unit, said: “This is a significant development in our investigation as we seek to get justice for Cody, his family and friends.

“We’ve received fantastic support from the public who’ve really helped us in our enquiries so far.

“However, we’re still really keen to hear from anyone with information who has not already spoken to us. Every piece of information helps our investigation.”

“We’ve set up a dedicated web page where you can send information, photos and videos that could help our investigation.”

Following a spate of stabbings in Birmingham over the festive period, West Midlands Police had also enforced Section 60 stop and search powers in and around Birmingham city centre on Thursday night.
