Four rushed to hospital after horrific multi-car pile-up carnage in Birmingham

A major road in the Small Heath area of Birmingham was closed off on Friday morning following a serious collision involving several vehicles which resulted in four people being rushed to hospital.

The shocking pile-up took place just after 10:45am in a busy shopping precinct area of Coventry Road between Whitmore Road and Jenkins Street.

Shoppers – some with little children in pushchairs – were left dazed and confused as emergency services flooded the scene of the collision to attend to the causalities.

Two females and two males were taken from the scene of the accident and transferred to Good Hope Hospital by a paramedic crew.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “We were called to reports of a multi-vehicle RTC on Coventry Road at 10.47am.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the West Midlands Care Team were sent to the scene.

“We treated a man for a potential medical episode before taking him to hospital. Three further patients, two females and a male, were all assessed and taken to Good Hope Hospital on the same ambulance.”

Police and fire crews quickly arrived at the scene and sealed off the road as emergency services attended to the serious collision and assessed the situation.

The huge pile-up caused shattered glass and broken car parts to litter all over the road, pavement and shop frontages.

Mr Yaqub, a Small Heath resident who was shopping near the scene of the carnage, told I Am Birmingham he was not surprised by the collision: “That junction is dangerous. There was an accident here just a few months ago up by Whitmore Road. Traffic calming measures are needed.”
