Tragedy in Birmingham as young girl dies after being struck by bus

A 15-year-old girl has tragically died after being struck by a bus in the Sheldon area of Birmingham on Saturday (18 March).

The devastating accident took place in Sheaf Lane just before 3pm and the young girl sadly died shortly after being transferred to hospital.

Police, air ambulance and fire service teams flooded into the area and the location sealed off as ambulance crews attended to the victim.

Despite the best efforts of the paramedics nothing could be done to save the victim due to the extensive and serious injuries sustained in the collision.

PC Gail Arnold, from the Serious Collision Unit, said: “A young girl has tragically died and we’ll be doing all we can to support her family during this deeply distressing time.

“We’re working to establish the circumstances behind the collision and we’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, and especially anyone with dash cam footage.”

The driver of the bus is helping with police enquiries as officers try to establish the full circumstances around the horrific collision.

A spokesperson for National Express West Midlands, said: “A National Express West Midlands bus was involved in an incident on Sheaf Lane in Sheldon on Saturday (March 18).

“Our thoughts remain with those involved and with their loved ones.

“Emergency services attended the scene and we will continue to give the police every assistance as they continue their investigation into what happened.”

The following day – Mothering Sunday (19 March) – flowers and tributes were left at a bus stop near the scene of the collision.
