Five men arrested for terrorism offence transported to the West Midlands

Five men from across the country have been arrested for a terrorism offence, and been brought to the West Midlands for questioning.

Detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTU) arrested the men on suspicion of a terrorism offence.

A statement from West Midlands Police confirmed the arrests but didn’t specify when the individuals had been taken into custody.

The men – aged between 26 and 67 – were arrested from addresses in Worcester, Birmingham, Leicester and Bradford on Tuesday (21 March).

According to police, the men were arrested “on suspicion of conspiracy to commit offences under the provisions of Section 15 of the Terrorism Act 2000, provide money/property for use in acts of terrorism.”

All five were transported to the West Midlands before being interviewed and subsequently bailed as further enquiries continue.

Police said the arrests “were intelligence led and there was no immediate threat to the safety of the public”.
