Instant karma as Birmingham gunman crashes bike into car during robbery getaway

A man suspected of robbing a teenage boy in Birmingham experienced instant karma when he crashed his e-bike into a car as he attempted to flee the scene of the crime.

The robbery took place around 8:15pm in Sparkbrook on Monday (27 March), during which the perpetrator threatened a young teenage street vendor at gunpoint before whizzing off.

Unfortunately for the assailant, he almost immediately crashed into a passing car, leaving him dazed, confused and at the mercy of law enforcement.

Speaking to I Am Birmingham, a police spokesperson stated that a 16-year-old teenager was “threatened by a man with a gun” as he attended a stall in Primrose Avenue, situated between Poplar Road and Walford Road.

During the incident, the armed robber ordered the terror-stricken teenage trader to hand over “tracksuits and trainers” from his stall.

The thug then mounted his electric bike and fled into the direction of traffic on Stratford Road, where he crashed into a car at the junction of Walford Road.

Unsuspecting members of the public ran to the aid of the man and called emergency services, before realising what had actually happened.

The accident brought the busy junction to a standstill as ambulance crews and police cars rushed to the scene.

Police cordoned off the scene as medical staff attended to the suspect who was sprawled on the ground nursing injuries to his face and leg.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police, said: “We arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of robbery, he was treated for injuries to his leg and head and currently remains in hospital.

“The man was further arrested for public order offences while at the hospital.

“We ask anyone who hasn’t already spoken to us who may have information to please get in touch quoting crime number 20/294831/23.”

Police confirmed that officers recovered the tracksuits and trainers which were stolen from the traumatised victim of the robbery.
