One-of-a-kind immersive cinema experience coming to secret Birmingham location

A special one-of-a-kind cinema experience that transports the audience into the world of the film that they’re watching is coming to Birmingham for the very first time.

Secret Cinema has disclosed exciting plans to screen a film at a Birmingham location and give the audience a “spectacular and  immersive” experience.

Secret Cinema events have been running for 15 years and attract fans from across the UK who travel to London to enjoy a very special and unique type of film experience. However, for the first time ever the first screening of 2023 will be taking place in Birmingham.

Audiences who arrive to the Secret Cinema screenings come dressed in the style and attire of the film that is being screened and the atmosphere buzzes with energy and expectation as the location of the screening is transformed – with the help of the studio behind the movie – into the landscape of the film that the audience have come to see.

The interactive events allow people to take part in missions and games, take on the role of a character, dress up,  explore the world created by the studio, and become immersed in the fun and frolics.

Thousands of people attend the events which are sometimes organised in derelict and abandoned warehouses, or wide open spaces, which add a dynamic vibe to the events.

In a Secret Cinema world, the boundaries between performer, audience, set and reality constantly shift; over the years fans have seamlessly traveled Back to the Future with Marty McFly, stumbled out of the Moulin Rouge onto the cobbled streets of Paris, joined the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars and danced the night away at Kellerman’s Resort for Dirty Dancing.

The special events have become popular and screenings have included the 007 James Bond hit Casino Royale, Netflix’s worldwide phenomenon Stranger Things and Bridgerton, and Ridley Scott’s iconic Blade Runner.

Max Alexander, CEO of Secret Cinema, said: “Secret Cinema is known for finding truly one of a kind locations, and on the heels of Birmingham having such an exciting 2022 as the host of the Commonwealth Games, we’re thrilled to be bringing a production to the city this summer.

“Our creative team is hard at work as we speak, imagining and building a spectacular world for guests to enjoy.

“We can’t wait to reveal more information soon.”
