Wolerhampton McDonald’s franchisee Ash Raju organises litter pick to clean up area and protect environment

A McDonald’s franchisee in Wolverhampton conducted a litter pick in July to clean up his local area and help protect the environment.

Ash Raju, who owns two McDonald’s restaurants in Wolverhampton, was joined by staff and Cllr Paul Singh and Cllr Sohail Khan for the litter pick.

A group of 16 crew members and members of Mr Raju’s restaurant management teams from the Dudley Street and Penn Road McDonald’s restaurants came together to clean up Wolverhampton on Wednesday 19 July.

Mr Raju, who is proud of his local community, said: “Looking after our local community is integral to me and having grown up and worked in the local area, a big part of ensuring the streets and local areas are litter free is of the upmost importance.

“It has been inspiring to see my teams working together to do our bit in keeping Wolverhampton clean.

“We’re already looking forward to our next ‘Love Where You Live’ project in the next quarter”.

The litter pick event saw an impressive 70 bags of litter collected, with several crew members collecting a number of bags each.

The event highlights McDonald’s strong passion for protecting the Wolverhampton environment.

Alongside the McDonald’s staff, Cllr Sohail Khan and Cllr Paul Singh also joined in to help with the litter pick.

Cllr Sohail Khan (Con), said: “‘It was a pleasure to meet Ash Raju and witness the great efforts himself and his McDonald’s staff are all putting in to keep Wolverhampton clean.

“With, in excess of 70 bags of litter collected across the morning, they most definitely made a difference.

“I look forward to seeing what they have planned next.”

Cllr Jacqueline Sweetman (Lab) praised the community spirit and congratulated everyone who took part in the litter pick: “Our local McDonalds in Wolverhampton has been a real community business in the area.

“Having this Summer Clean Up in the area is typical of the care given to the community.”

Cllr Sweetman also thanked Mr Raju for his community initiatives, and added: “Last Christmas, Ash generously arranged a gift of over 500 children’s books for our local foodbank.”
