Fresh jobs created as new Poundland store opens in Birmingham Perry Barr

A brand new Poundland store has opened in Birmingham, creating 20 new jobs in the local community.

The new store at is located at the One Stop Shopping in Perry Barr, and offers over 7,000 sq ft of shopping space, launching a new range of merchandise from the store’s parent company Pepco.

The discount retailer has announced it’s beginning a complete overhaul of its general merchandise ranges that will see it introduce 2,000 new lines across all its 850-plus stores in the UK and Ireland.

Customers enjoyed taking a first look at some of the new products when the doors opened on Saturday (27 January).

“Poundland is delighted to be back in Perry Barr. The new opening is breathing new life into the former Dorothy Perkins outlet, which has been vacant since February 2021, in addition to the adjacent unit,” a spokesperson for the company said.

“Comprehensive building work has taken place to merge the two units into a more substantial space.”

“From cookware to candles, cushions to containers, toys to technology, Poundland customers will now have access to ranges that will make their house a home.”

According to the company, Poundland now has access to the same ranges on offer in Pepco’s 4,800-plus stores across Europe, allowing it to “double down on its promise of amazing value to customers”.

The phased changeover will see the full range of Pepco products introduced over the coming weeks with almost 1,000 items available in its UK and Ireland stores as well as online.

Poundland commercial director Tim Bettley said: “We’re delighted to be back in Perry Barr and with a new store with new ranges.

“It’s hard to underestimate the importance of these all-new ranges for customers – not least because of the incredible value these ranges also offer.

“Completing the transition of both clothing and home ranges to revamped ranges powered by our parent company Pepco, will not only give our stores like this one in Perry Barr a fresh new look, but deliver the amazing value that’s at the heart of our customer promise.

“A change on this scale is transformational for Poundland and we’re excited to see the customer reaction to these ranges.”

Over the past five years, Poundland has introduced new product lines in its stores alongside clothing and homewares, including chilled and frozen food items, providing customers with an alternative to high street supermarkets.
