The Queen’s coronavirus message urges people and communities to come together

As the nation grapples with the coronavirus crisis, the Queen has issued a morale-boosting message of unity and solidarity to the people of Britain.

Arriving at Windsor today with Prince Philip, the monarch delivered a message in the hope of inspiring the public during the current coronavirus pandemic that is raging across the country.

Her message highlighted the importance of people helping each other and for communities to work together as the epidemic impacts upon all sectors of life.

“As Philip and I arrive at Windsor today, we know that many individuals and families across the United Kingdom, and around the world, are entering a period of great concern and uncertainty,” she said.

Prince Philip, 98, and the Queen – who celebrates her 94th birthday next month – are both self-isolating after the advice of medical professionals. Anyone over 60 is deemed to be at higher risk of viral infection than the general population.

In her statement, the Queen added: “We are all being advised to change our normal routines and regular patterns of life for the greater good of the communities we live in and, in particular, to protect the most vulnerable within them.”

She also mentioned the community spirit of the nation during difficult and challenging times in her message:

“At times such as these, I am reminded that our nation’s history has been forged by people and communities coming together to work as one, concentrating our combined efforts with a focus on the common goal.”

And went on to praise the staff and crews of the emergency and public services who are working around the clock during the epidemic, adding:

“We are enormously thankful for the expertise and commitment of our scientists, medical practitioners and emergency and public services; but now more than any time in our recent past, we all have a vitally important part to play as individuals – today and in the coming days, weeks and months.”

Her message concluded by mentioning some of the challenges such as the importance of communication:

“Many of us will need to find new ways of staying in touch with each other and making sure that loved ones are safe. I am certain we are up to that challenge. You can be assured that my family and I stand ready to play our part.”
