A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a brutal mugging and stabbing of a man in his 60s in the Kings Norton area of Birmingham.
Police detained the 13-year-old boy from an address in the area this morning (20 October).
West Midlands Police launched an investigation into the shocking crime after a man in his 60s was discovered with serious injuries in Chapel Walk on Thursday afternoon (16 October).
The poor victim remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital following the traumatic attack.
A police spokesperson issued a statement saying detectives believe the victim was robbed of his Specialized Crosstrail Elite Disc 2016 model bike after being attacked by two muggers at around 1.50pm.
Detectives working on this case have appealed for anyone with information, or who saw anybody in the area with the yellow bike, to get in touch.
Detective Inspector Al Teague, from Force CID, said: “It’s thanks to the response of the public we were able to identify and arrest a suspect this morning.
“This happened in broad daylight and we still need to hear from anyone with information who can help our enquiries.”
This disturbing stabbing comes after a weekend of knife crime in Birmingham. On Saturday a mass of teenagers fought in a Birmingham park that ended with four teenagers being stabbed in Bordesley Green. The following day a man waving a machete and screaming “I’ll cut you up!” was arrested at gunpoint by armed police in Billesley.
