Horrific news is coming in of a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the back last night near Hockley Circus in Birmingham.

The teenager was attacked shortly before 7pm last night (18 November) and is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

A 13-year-old boy was shot in the back as he walked near Hockley Circus on Thursday night. The teenager remains in hospital in a critical condition with injuries believed to be life-changing, say police.

Another boy, thought to be aged around 14 or 15, reportedly ran into a local shop in a terrified state when the shooting took place and asked the shopkeeper to hide him because he was in danger of being shot. The shopkeeper refused to hide him for fear of reprisals and the teenager then caught a bus and left the scene.

Hockley Circus was taped off by police and the area closed off for most of the morning as forensic teams conducted enquiries in the area today.

A police spokesperson said: “We are urgently appealing to anyone in the area with any information. This is a busy area with lots of motorists, so we’re asking anyone with dashcams to check their footage as this may help us identify the people responsible.

“Also if you witnessed anything, please contact us as this information could provide integral to our investigation.”

Unmarked police cars are currently at the scene and the central section of the Hockley Flyover underpass is cordoned off to the public as officers comb the area for evidence relating to the shocking shooting.
