Police seal off mosque car park after reports of Small Heath shooting

Police sealed off a mosque car park in Small Heath after reports of “gunfire” late last night, according to local residents.
Sunday night saw police storming into Small Heath after reports of a “shooting incident” around the Herbert Road and Chapman Road section in Small Heath and sealed off the Idaara Maarif-e-Islam car park as officers reportedly searched for the weapon.
According to several members of a prominent Small Heath community group on Facebook, West Midlands Police sealed off a car park in their search for firearms after residents reported a shooting incident on Sunday night (12 December).

Shots were allegedly heard in Sara Park and it appears the incident spilled over from the public park and into the Idaara Maarif-e-Islam mosque’s car park across the road, which nestles between Herbert Road, Chapman Road and Regent Park Road.
Officers immediately placed a cordon around the scene and began to conduct a search of the area, shown in photographs shares on social media by local residents.

Police also reportedly searched the car park belonging to Regents Park Banqueting Hall – where a wedding was taking place – and inspected the area for the weapon used in the shooting.
I Am Birmingham has contacted West Midlands Police for more on this breaking story and an update will follow.
This troubling incident comes after the tragic murder of a bright young teenager in Small Heath on Friday which took place close to last night’s police search.
