Plumes of smoke rose over the Small Heath area of Birmingham this afternoon as a severe fire broke out at a garage in Wright Street which required five engines to douse out the blaze.

Fire crews arrived at the scene around 12:05pm (11 January) and it took around 35 firefighters to tackle the blaze.

A series blaze broke out at a commercial garage situated in Wright Street, off Muntz Street, in Small Heath today.

Thick plumes of smoke were visible across the area, and traffic was disrupted along the main Coventry Road as fire crews battled to control the raging inferno.

West Midlands Fire Service deployed crews from Hay Mills, Billesley, Aston and Ward End and five fire engines were at the scene of the inferno.

The blaze was so intense that a number of vehicles parked near the garage were also engulfed in the raging fire.

Thankfully, there are currently no reports of any injuries.
