Blues fans shocked as Ed Sheeran joins them for a pint and good ol’ knees up in Birmingham

Grammy award-winning singer Ed Sheeran was spotted dancing and playing pool with Birmingham City FC fans at a Small Heath pub on Sunday (10 April) and then tucking into a curry in the city centre.

Chart-topping musician Ed Sheeran, 31, drank and danced with fans at The Roost pub – which he attended with his rapper friend Jaykae who hails from Small Heath – and later popped into Asha’s curry house.

Blues fans got the shock of their lives when the doors to The Roost pub, in Cattell Road, swung open and in walked Ed Sheeran and his friend Jaykae.

The singer arrived without any security or entourage and appeared relaxed as he mingled with Birmingham City FC fans who had packed out the pub.

The location of the singing, dancing and drinking session – including pouring pints by Sheeran – was The Roost pub which is situated just a short distance from St Andrews, the home of the Blues.

A video was later shared on Twitter which showed the singer dancing around a pool table and mingling with the Blues fans.

Sheeran visited the pub with his Small Heath friend Jaykae (real name Janum Khan). Jaykae, who is a passionate Blues fan, is an actor and musician who has previously worked with Sheeran on a remix song called ‘Take me Back to London’.

After the relaxed and playful revelery at The Roost the world famous singer popped into Birmingham city centre.

He was spotted enjoying Indian food at Asha’s curry house in Birmingham city centre and took selfies with some of the staff at the restaurant.

The team at Asha’s restaurant said they were “honoured” when Sheeran told them that he had visited Asha’s multiple times but the Birmingham branch was his favourite.

The curry house was visited last year by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise who dined there while filming the latest Mission Impossible in the city.

Ed Sheeran was also spotted in a Birmingham pub when he shot a music video inside the legendary The Eagle and Tun pub – fondly remembered as ‘the UB40 pub’ – where he filmed a music video in 2019.
