Authorities at the scene of last night’s devastating explosion at a property in the Kingstanding area of Birmingham have sadly confirmed that the body of a woman has been recovered from the house.
The blast at the home in Dulwich Road took place just after 8:30pm on Sunday night and several other homes adjacent to the scene of the explosion were also damaged.
The dead woman was found inside the property where the massive explosion occurred.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service, said: “We’re very sad to confirm that a woman has been found dead at the scene.”
Several other people required medical aid, including one man who suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Ambulance crews.
Over 20 local residents had to be evacuated to safety last night, and rehoused in council properties and hotels, as emergency services worked at the scene of the tragedy.
Authorities believe the explosion, which could be heard as far away as Sutton Coldfied, was caused by gas and an investigation has begun into what led to the horrific blast.
West Midlands Police appealed to members of the public not to share photographs of any victims of the blast on social media as this will cause further pain and trauma.
The area around the scene of the blast remains sealed off this morning to motorists and people are being asked to keep away as debris, including damaged cars, are cleared away and the site made safe.
