Virtuoso Birmingham violinist to give free performances at Black History Month event

An award-winning Birmingham violinist is to give two free performances as part of Black History Month events on Sunday (9 October).

Melika Queely will give informal musical performances at the Round Room in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on Sunday afternoon with selections of music from the works of Bob Marley, Ravel, Ed Sheeran, Brahms and others.

Queely is a talented virtuoso violinist with over 30 years experience, and she is has performed with the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra.

She was born in Birmingham to parents hailing from Jamaica and St. Kitts, and she is proud of her Brummie and Caribbean roots.

The exceptional musician first picked up the violin at the tender age of 4. During her youth she played to various audiences who were always left in awe of her thrilling performances.

After finishing a degree in Music at Wolverhampton University she began to embark on her career as a violinist and also a teacher of music with a PGCE in secondary Music from the Open University.

Queely is adept at playing music of different genres from Classical to Reggae, Gospel and Rock, and she continues to explore the musical landscape.

Her selections for her performance at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery includes music from Sia, Etta James, Rhianna, Frank Sinatra, Vivaldi and Birmingham’s UB40.

She has toured Paris, Miami, Holland, and Switzerland playing melodiously with orchestras and individual performances. She also performs at many events in the UK as part of a string quartet, in bands, and as a solo violinist.

Queely has received multiple awards for her performances and contribution to the music industry and has plans to record an album featuring her original compositions.

Making music is her passion, and combined with her appreciation of fashion and art, Queely delivers powerful, impacting performances which are unique, stylish, edgy and full of creativity deep from the within her soul.

Melika Queely will give two performances at the Round Room in Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on Sunday 9 October between 12.30pm – 1pm and 1.30pm – 2pm.
