Man arrested after shocking murder of 3-week-old baby in Birmingham

A man from Sparkhill has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the shocking death of a three-week-old boy today.

Police were called to Dovey Road in Sparkhill just after 3.40am on Tuesday and found the baby in a critical condition.

The child, who was not breathing, was immediately rushed to hospital by paramedics but sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

The ambulance service confirmed that two injured women – one with head injuries – were also discovered at the tragic scene inside the Sparkhill property and transferred to hospital for treatment.

A man aged 29 was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and is now in police custody as the murder investigation continues.

West Midlands Police stated that detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the brutal murder.

Inspector Neil Kirkpatrick, in charge of policing in the area, said: “This is a real tragedy and our thoughts go out to everyone involved.

“We’ll have extra officers in the area over the coming days to offer reassurance.”
