“Five main jets are in use, with one of our hydraulic platforms also in attendance. Heavy plant machinery is also in use, with on-site staff assisting our firefighters.”

Local residents and businesses were advised to keep doors and windows closed as plumes of smoke blanketed the area.

Fire crews used a high-volume pumping unit to extract an emergency water supply from the nearby Grand Union Canal.
