Hunt launched for hit-and-run driver who killed Philip Dale in Birmingham

Police have named the victim of the horrific hit-and-run tragedy in the Bordesley Green area of Birmingham.

Philip Dale suffered fatal injuries after being struck near the junction of Heybarnes Road and Farmer Road, Bordesley Green, on Tuesday (2 November) after 11pm.

In a tribute the family of the 45-year-old victim said: “We are heartbroken and devastated by the tragic loss of our beloved Philip. Your family and many, many friends will miss you beyond all measure.”

Mr Dale was struck by a white hatchback-style vehicle shortly after 11pm. The heartless driver of the vehicle failed to stop and assist Mr Dale. The car sped away from the scene of the devastating tragedy.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our investigation continues and we’re still trying to trace the vehicle and driver. We are actively following a number of lines of enquiry including the examination of a large quantity of CCTV.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area of Heybarnes Road and the A45 that evening to think if they remember a white hatchback car which may have been travelling quickly or may have had damage to it. Also, have they noticed a white hatchback go missing from their street or suddenly appear with damage.

“I would also appeal direct to the driver to do the right thing. Now is the time to come forward and explain to us exactly what happened.”

Local people in the Bordesley Green and Small Heath area have raised concerns about the rise of speeding cars at night as young male drivers use local streets as race tracks at night which is causing alarm and posing danger to residents.

There have been a number of hit-and-run collisions and people are demanding regular police patrols at night to apprehend the speeding drivers.
