An eyewitness said he saw police seal off the roundabout and paramedics carrying a body on a stretcher

Locals in the area said they were shocked to learn of the death. A man who lives in the Sentinels overlooking Holloway Circus roundabout – more commonly known as Pagoda Island – told I Am Birmingham he was stunned and disturbed after seeing a body bag being carried away as he headed to work yesterday afternoon.

“It was about 12:10pm, there were police on all entrances to the island and up on the ramp.

“After going under the tunnel opposite to the stairs to get to the island closest to my block, I saw a group of paramedics and police standing around a stretcher with a white body bag strapped to it.”

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said he was “shocked, scared and uneasy” as the incident took place “so close to home.”

He also speculated the death could be of a homeless person but no details have yet been confirmed by the police.

“I’m shocked but not surprised as one would normally be, as it’s expected this time of year with the homeless unfortunately.”
