Birmingham’s Apple store is offering free sessions to keep kids entertained this Easter, and learn new skills in the process.

The ‘Today at Apple’ sessions – designed specifically with kids in mind – last one hour and offer the perfect excuse to try something new in between browsing for Easter gifts.

The interactive workshops are being held at the Apple store in Birmingham’s New Street as well as the Solihull Apple store in the Touchwood Shopping Centre.

Art Lab for Kids: Make Your Own Emoji

Art Lab for Kids: Make Your Own Emoji‘ is the first session, which will see kids learn fun ways to create their own emoji. Apple experts will show them how to draw colourful faces and objects, and they’ll get hands-on using the Procreate app on iPad with Apple Pencil to draw an emoji to take home.

Coding Lab for Kids: Code Your First App

The second session, ‘Coding Lab for Kids: Code Your First App‘, gives you the chance to code and create as a family with Swift Playgrounds using iPad. Kids will experiment with code and design an app using the About Me playground.

They’ll use Swift code to customise their app with fun fonts, background colours, Memoji and more. Then you’ll work together to bring their app to life. Recommended for kids aged 10 and above.

Music Lab for Kids: Making a Theme Song

Music Lab for Kids: Making a Theme Song‘ gives kids a chance to create a theme song for your favourite TV programme, book or game using GarageBand on iPad.

Recommended for kids aged 8–12. Apple experts will cover rhythm basics, and kids will get hands-on with experimenting with Smart Drums, adding pre-recorded loops and remixing their theme song. For sessions with amplified sound, hearing loop technology is available on request.

Video Lab for Kids: Adventures in Moviemaking

Finally, ‘Video Lab for Kids: Adventures in Moviemaking‘. In this session, kids aged 8–12 will take part in a fun and imaginative moviemaking experience.

Apple experts will show them how to create short videos from start to finish using the Clips app on iPad. They’ll learn how to plan, experiment with transitions, and make their movie shine with Memoji, stickers, posters and more.
