A busy Birmingham road came to a virtual standstill this evening (8th June) after a collision described by police as “serious”.
Coventry Road, near the Kings Road junction, remained closed in both directions as emergency services rushed to the scene.
The crash resulted in the busy A45 dual carriageway being totally closed off around 8pm as ambulances, police cars and a helicopter converged around the scene of the collision.
The police cordon resulted in tailbacks in both directions which saw heavy traffic building up around The Swan Centre and the Small Heath Highway.
A police spokesperson, said: “Coventry Road in South Yardley, near the junction with Kings Road, is currently closed in both directions following a serious collision.
“Officers are at the scene and the road is expected to remain shut for a number of hours.”
West Midlands Police and ambulance crews have not released any official details about the number of vehicles involved in the collision or if there were any casualties.
