Emergency services have confirmed that a child was killed in last night’s serious collision in Coventry Road, Birmingham.
The young cyclist was struck on the busy A45, near South Yardley, and all traffic in the area came to a standstill as emergency services arrived at the tragic scene.
The fatal accident between a bicycle and car reportedly took place just after 6:15pm on Thursday (8 June) and the dual carriageway was cordoned off as medical crews arrived at the scene.
Police have not released the age of the young victim due to “patient confidentiality”.
A male pedestrian was also hurt in another collision nearby and was taken to Heartlands Hospital for treatment.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “Upon arrival, ambulance staff found a boy who was the cyclist. He was assessed and had sustained life-threatening injuries.
“Ambulance staff administered advanced life support to him but unfortunately, despite their best efforts, nothing more could be done to save him and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
