Dangerous driver arrested after young boy killed in horrific Coventry Road collision

A dangerous driver “unfit through drugs” has been arrested by police in connection with the death of a child cyclist in Coventry Road, Birmingham. 

The young lad tragically died at the scene in South Yardley despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The fatal collision took place just after 6:15pm at the Kings Road junction of the busy A45 dual carriageway.

Police have confirmed that a 33-year-old male driver has been arrested in connection with the tragic incident.

A police spokesperson, said: “We were called to Coventry Road at the junction with Berkeley Road shortly after 6.15pm last night (Thurs).

“Despite the best efforts of our colleagues from the ambulance service the boy sadly died at the scene.

“We are supporting his family with specially trained officers as they try to come to terms with what has happened.

“A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being unfit through drugs and remains in custody.”

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are appealing for witnesses and in particular for people with dash cam footage to please contact us.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy and we are doing all we can to support them at this very difficult time.”
