Library of Birmingham joins in Eid festivities by lighting up in green and white

The iconic Library of Birmingham in Centenary Square is being lit up in green and white to mark Eid celebrations in the region.

As Muslims across the West Midlands celebrate Eid al-Adha, the city’s main library in Broad Street is marking the occasion by lighting up in green and white this evening.

Thousands of Muslim families are celebrating Eid al-Adha in their homes, mosques and public parks, and the Library of Birmingham will join in and mark the event by lighting up the building in green and white.

Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Majid Mahmood, sent out Eid greetings to the Muslim community and added: :”The Library of Birmingham will be lit green and white to mark Eid al-Adha tonight.”

The landmark library in Broad Street – which has become an integral part of the city’s landscape – is renowned for lighting up the building in colours that correspond with important dates, holy days and public events.

The Library of Birmingham lights up in green for St Patrick’s Day, orange to highlight the United Nations’ campaign to bring an end to Violence Against Women, rainbow colours for Pride, and multicoloured lights for Diwali celebrations.
