Police swoop in after hordes of antisocial bikers terrify residents in Birmingham

Police units swooped in after receiving calls from residents in the Sheldon area of Birmingham who were being terrified by hordes of dangerous bikers on Sunday.

Officers used dispersal powers to break up a large gathering of people where bikers were riding dangerously and causing chaos along Moat Lane.

Police confirmed that more than 60 calls were received from members of the public as more than 100 people gathered, along with around 30 individuals riding motorcycles.

Some of the group were riding dangerously, performing wheelies and speeding, say police.

A statement from the police stated that dangerous and illegal use of roads which puts people at risk will not be tolerated by the force and action taken against those who break the law.

Police deployed specialist resources before moving in at around 5pm on Sunday (6 August) and enforced a dispersal order to clear the crowd and bikers, and make the area safe.
