The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is urging individuals to make a will, as it offers a service to write one for free.
According to recent research by Canada Life, more than a third of UK adults do not have a will, prompting Midlands Air Ambulance Charity to open a free will writing service to those aged 50 and above, to encourage more people to think about their financial planning.
The charity has taken the first-time decision to lower the eligible age to 50, down from 55, to help more residents get their affairs in order.
The free scheme is being offered by the charity in partnership with several local legal firms.
Pamela Senioré, legacy executive for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “It’s staggering to see that a third of UK adults do not have a will, with a proportion citing not being able to afford to prepare this vital legal document as their main reason.
“Leaving this world without planning for those that are important to you can result in unnecessary, emotional and lengthy disputes. Making a will is so simple and ensures that your last wishes are fulfilled.
“We are keen to break the stigma around the complexities that put people off making their will. Our free will scheme is now open to those over the age of 50 and we urge supporters without a current will to start planning now.
“Those that choose to use our free will writing scheme often go on to leave a gift for our lifesaving charity but are not obliged to. By supporting in this way, your lasting legacy, regardless of size, will help save lives long into the future.”
