Foka Wolf: The bastard child of Viz has his own expo in Brum

This past weekend saw the elusive street artist and agent provocateur, Foka Wolf, take over a small part of The Custard Factory with his own brand of satirical paste-ups, courtesy of Bene Culture.

Something of an enigma the artist (or is that ‘artists’?) has made the gentrification of Birmingham his/her canvas and playground.

The pastings of Foka Wolf have certainly garnered him/her a fair bit of attention in recent months with The Metro, The London Evening Standard and even the BBC covering this bastard child of Viz and MAD Magazine.

Taking swipes at big business and their plans to make Birmingham more grey as such iconic sites as the Central Library which has been demolished only to be replaced by something, arguably, far more souls and corporate.

Paradise Circus is slowly and effectively transformed into yet another private, commercialised place. In gently stabbing at the ribs of big business with his/her fakery, not only is he bringing these issues Nato the public eye through art, s/he’s doing it in a way that’s relatable. Private Eye’s sensibilities channelled through the lens of The Beano.

But, I don’t think s/he even knew how it would take off! And, in the intervening months, it’s only excavated. Have you seen one around Brum? There are still a fair few left, if you know where to look.

Naturally, its as only time before there would be any exhibition and in typical Foka Wolf style it was done withe. somewhat guerrilla art tactics with a low profile social media invite to his/her burgeoning followers, many of whom made it down to the event’s launch on Saturday 17 November.
