Police have made an arrest after a man was repeatedly stabbed to death in Winson Green and later died in hospital.

West Midlands Police have launched a murder investigation after a 29-year-old victim was viciously stabbed a number of times in the chest and back at around 2.30pm in Summerfield Park, Dudley Road on Friday (4 December).

He was then taken to hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead just after midnight yesterday.

The arrested suspect was held on suspicion of murder in the early hours of this morning.

A post-mortem of the victim will take place today, with the victim’s family being supported by specially trained officers. Earlier, police said they had received reports that gunshots were heard, as officers remained at the scene continuing forensic work.

Det Insp Laura Harrison, leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation is moving really quickly, but I still need to hear from anyone in the area at the time who saw or heard anything and who’s not yet spoken to us.

“This was appalling violence which has ended in a man’s murder, and we’ve been working non-stop since yesterday (Friday) to establish exactly what happened, and who was responsible.

“We also really need to speak to anyone with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage that might help us.”
