An officer serving with West Midlands Police has been charged with historical sexual offences against a child.

PC Joseph Powell will appear in court in November after he was charged with the shocking crime.

The sexual assaults against the child, who was under the age of 13 at the time, took place between 2009 and 2011.

PC Powell was also charged with trying to access information on a police computer without official authorisation.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: “A serving West Midlands Police officer has been charged with an historical sexual offence.”

The offending officer, who was suspended in August 2020 following his arrest, is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court on 10th November.
