Will Smith makes surprise appearance at Wimbledon ahead of London ‘King Richard’ premiere
After great anticipation, King Richard, the film about tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams’ father is finally out tomorrow.
To celebrate its release, Demi Singleton, Sanniya Sidney, Will Smith and Jon Bernthal were in London for the promotions of the film.
The cast have been on a whirlwind of promotional stints and pulling out all the stops to get Richard Williams’ story told. This week, the cast attended Wimbledon for a photocall where they all dressed glamorously.
They also surprised the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative players during a rehearsal session. Following this, the cast attended the UK premiere which was held at Curzon Mayfair Cinema. Smith even said “I’m exploring my life and my experiences honestly.”
The film even had a Gala Screening at this year’s London Film Festival, which received a standing ovation and a global press conference held virtually in which the whole cast and crew shared their experiences working on the film and what this film actually meant to them.
In the film, Will Smith portrays Richard Williams – the man behind the success of tennis superstars Venus & Serena Williams.
We all know the famous tennis sisters Venus and Serena Williams. But what we don’t know is the story behind their success – about how they became the tennis stars that they are today. Warner Bros. upcoming release, King Richard, tells that story and stars everybody’s favourite, Will Smith in the titular role.
King Richard is primarily a biopic about Richard Williams (Will Smith); with an unstoppable vision and a bold, 78-page plan, he’s determined to write his two daughters, Venus (Demi Singleton) and Serena (Sanniya Sidney), into history.
Training on tennis courts in Compton, Richard forms the girls’ solid commitment and insight. Together, the Williams family defy the odds and the expectations laid before them. He trains them in abandoned tennis courts – rain or shine – and the girls are shaped by their father’s commitment.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, it’s a film that you will need to see to believe, and one of the most anticipated films out this year with Will Smith in a role that we have never seen before. Aunjanue Ellis plays Oracene “Brandy” Williams, Saniyya Sidney stars as Venus Williams, Demi Singleton stars as Serena Williams, with Tony Goldwyn as coach Paul Cohen and Jon Bernthal as coach Rick Macci.
