Emergency services have confirmed the tragic death of three children who fell into a frozen lake in Kingshurt yesterday (11 December).

Three young boys have passed away after the horrific accident which took place in Babbs Mill Park on Sunday afternoon.

West Midlands Police have sadly confirmed that three boys aged 11, 10 and 8-years-old have passed away, and a 6-year-old boy remains in critical condition in hospital.

Emergency services stated that specialist teams are still at the scene of the tragic accident and searching for further bodies.

The children were playing on the frozen lake when the ice broke and they fell through into the icy waters.

Superintendent Richard Harris, said: “When the fire service arrived at the scene, we were made aware there were up to six people in the water.

“The search continued throughout the night yesterday and this morning there will be specialist police diving teams that will be in the water, continuing to search as a precaution.”

West Midlands Fire Service issued a statement about the tragic incident: “At 2.36pm on Sunday 11 December, West Midlands Fire Service, along with West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Midlands Police, were called to Babbs Mill Park in Solihull.

Reports from the scene and videos on social media indicate that people had been playing on the ice on a pond and had fallen through.

Emergency services are urgently appealing to parents to warn children about the dangers posed by rivers, lakes and canals during the current icy conditions.
