Police have discovered the remains of a child buried in the garden of a house in the Handsworth area of Birmingham over the weekend.

Forensics teams had been carefully digging and searching the rear of the property in Clarence Road since last week before the shocking discovery of the child’s body.

Two suspects, a man, aged 40 and a woman aged 41, have been arrested  and charged for neglect or allowing the death of a child.

Detectives working on this disturbing case issued a statement saying that investigators continue to carry out further work at the property while a post-mortem will be performed on the body discovered in the rear garden to determine the cause of death.

A police spokesperson, said: “Officers searching the garden of a property in Handsworth have discovered what are believed to be human remains.

“The body is believed to be that of a child; a post-mortem will be carried out in due course to establish the cause of death.

“A man, aged 40 and a woman aged 41, were arrested on 9 December on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and a separate case of wilful neglect.

“Both have been charged with neglect and have been remanded in custody.”

Police stressed that the present occupiers of the property in Clarence Road are aware of the search, but are not connected to the investigation.
