Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage after a man died following a fatal collision in Birmingham on New Year’s Eve.

The 37-year-old man was taken to hospital following the incident which took place on Stratford Road in Hall Green, close to the junction with Fox Hollies Road, shortly after 11.30pm on 31 December.

The man is believed to have been struck by the driver of a Silver Mercedes E220 and officers “are hoping witnesses may have seen the car, which was heading in the direction of the city, prior to the collision.”

Tragically, the man passed away yesterday (Wednesday 4 January) and his family are currently being supported by specialist officers during this difficult time.

“We are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage who was in the area at the time and any witnesses to the collision to get in touch,” West Midlands Police said.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving above the legal alcohol limit. He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This is a busy stretch of road with lots of people about, so I am really keen to hear off anyone who witnessed the collision or captured it on dashcam footage.

“Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this difficult time and we will continue to support them.”
