Knife crackdown in city centre after teenagers arrested for stabbing Birmingham schoolboy

A police knife crackdown following the shocking stabbing of a schoolboy in Birmingham city centre has resulted in arrests and recovery of weapons.

Knives were recovered and 46 people searched after temporary Section 60 powers were used after a 13-year-old boy was stabbed on Wednesday (18 January).

West Midlands Police and British Transport Police conducted weapon sweeps in the city which resulted in the recovery of knives near New Street Station.

Officers also issued three Community Protection Warnings to young people who had persistently been causing problems.

The crackdown comes after a 13-year-old schoolboy was stabbed by the McDonald’s on The Ramp in Stephenson Place last week. The horrific incident involved a group of teenagers and took place around 4:30pm on Wednesday.

Chief Inspector Richard Evans, said: “This was an appalling attack on a young boy in the heart of the city centre.”

Two teenagers, both aged 16, were arrested in connection with the stabbing and later released on bail.
