Police sealed off parts of the city centre after a young schoolboy was stabbed near Birmingham New Street Station on Wednesday.

The teenage boy was stabbed in Stephenson Place around 4:30pm and police flooded the area and sealed off the busy location.

The 13-year-old victim – who is believed to have been attacked by a gang of youths – was rushed to hospital for treatment following the horrific knife attack.

The immediate area around the appalling knife attack – Stephenson Place and The Ramp – were sealed off as detectives carried out an investigation and searched for CCTV footage of the incident.

Chief Inspector Richard Evans, said: “This was an appalling attack on a young boy in the heart of the city centre.

“We quickly put in place temporary powers, called section 60 powers, giving us the ability to stop and search people without the normal need for us to have reasonable grounds.

“We’ll continue to have officers in the city centre today to reassure people, while we continue to work with partners to reduce knife crime in the West Midlands.”
