A second man has been charged after a slam gun was recovered from a car in Handsworth, police have confirmed.

West Midlands Police officers were on patrol near Robert Road when they spotted a suspicious vehicle on 17 February.

“The Audi was searched and a homemade shotgun was recovered,” the force revealed in a statement.

22-year-old Chadrick Peart was arrested on Friday evening, and has since been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of a firearm while prohibited for life.

Peart, of Millmeads Road in Birmingham, has been remanded in custody and will now appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 6 April.

According to police, he joins Daniel Bryan, who first appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 20 February.

Bryan, aged 20, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 20 March.

Four others, aged between 16 and 22, were also arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. They remain on bail pending further enquiries.
