A suspect has been arrested and charged after a shocking assault against an unsuspecting woman in Birmingham city centre.

The 28-year-old woman was by the Bullring on Wednesday 29 March when a man brutally injected a syringe into her leg.

The attacker, who was a stranger to the woman, then fled the scene after the horrifying incident and boarded a bus.

The traumatised victim received hospital care for her injury.

Following the disturbing attack, police officers worked with the Public Protection Unit and arrested and a 33-year-old man from Birmingham.

Marwan Ahmmed, who lives in Hagley Road, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court for an initial hearing on Saturday (8 April) charged with wounding with intent.

He was remanded into custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 5 May.

Discussing the shocking crime, a police spokesperson said: “We understand the impact this kind of incident has and are working daily with partner agencies to stop violence against women and girls.”
