A speeding drink driver from Stourbridge has been jailed for 28 months after her car struck a grandfather.

Laura Preston was speeding her Citroen C3 in a 30mph limit along Walsall Street in Willenhall on the afternoon of 25 March last year.

36-year-old Preston had children in her car when she ploughed into the 55-year-old pedestrian, and she failed to stop after the horrific accident.

The car was found by police a short time later and Preston, from Mount Road in Wordsley, was arrested and found to be over the drink-drive limit when tested by officers.

Preston pleaded guilty to causing serious injury through dangerous driving at an earlier hearing and was sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday (8 June) and handed a jail sentence of 28 months.

She was also disqualified from driving for seven years and four months, and she will be required to sit an extended retest before being allowed behind the wheel again.

Her poor victim sustained serious injuries and is still undergoing treatment on his road to recovery.
