Diners at one of the busiest McDonald’s in Birmingham city centre were left shocked as a teenage thug charged into the fast food branch brandishing a 12-inch machete on Sunday morning.

The terrifying incident took place at the McDonald’s situated on ‘The Ramp’ walkway that leads into Grand Central

Four police officers quickly swooped into the fast food eatery and apprehended the armed thug who had his face concealed under a hoodie.

Officers pinned the young man to the floor near the McDonald’s counter and removed three knives.

McDonald staff were visibly shaken and diners were screaming as the frightening situation unfolded right before their eyes.

A police spokesperson, said: “We have charged a teenager with possession of a knife after we were called to McDonald’s in Birmingham city centre at around 4.40am yesterday (23 July).

“A 17-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested within minutes of the call being made and three knives were recovered.

“The teenager was not tasered but he was red dotted to ensure the safety of others.”

The young thug is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today.
