Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight and BCFC’s Tom Brady spotted in Small Heath

The new minority owner of Birmingham City FC and the creator of Peaky Blinders were both spotted in Small Heath on Saturday (12 August).

Former NFL player Tom Brady and Steven Knight were spotted at The Roost pub in Cattell Road before the Birmingham City vs Leeds United match at St Andrews.

As football fans crowded around the pub they were surprised to see the creator of the hugely popular BBC drama series Peaky Blinders, which is set in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, having a drink ahead of the Blues game.

Knight, who is planning on filming the Peaky Blinders movie at his new Digbeth LOC film studio, shared drinks with football fans as loud chants of “USA” were heard as Tom Brady – the new minority owner of Birmingham City FC –  entered the pub unannounced and met the cheering fans.

A stampede for selfies followed which Brady greeted in good spirits.

The Roost pub hit the headlines last year when chart-topping musician Ed Sheeran and Small Heath rapper Jaykae drank and danced with Blues fans.

Tom Brady was also spotted at The Royal George pub in Garrison Lane where he bought drinks for everyone with a bill that ran to £150 at the bar.

The legendary player, who has won seven Super Bowl championships, also left a generous £400 bar tab.

Antoin McGroarty, who owns the Royal George pub, said it had been a “historic day” and he was absolutely “stunned” by Brady’s unexpected visit to the pub.
