BBC Three begins its media talent search in Birmingham
BBC Three has posted a list of Birmingham-based jobs on the BBC careers hub today as part of the channel’s expansion into the city.
The jobs offer new opportunities in production, journalism, publishing and digital for emerging and established talent.
The diverse range of positions will include a Head of Development, producers, a designer, a researcher, a Video Editor and Duty Editor. More jobs will be advertised in the coming months.
BBC Three is one of the most trail-blazing places to work in the BBC – and wider industry – though the editorial pillars Make Me Laugh and Make Me Think, the channel is helping young audiences understand the world and their place in it. The quality of the content has been recognised by the industry and audiences alike, winning awards such as RTS Channel of The Year, Broadcast Digital Channel of the Year and BAFTAs for shows like Fleabag, Murdered by my Father and People Just Do Nothing.
In 2016 it was announced that BBC Three would be expanding into Birmingham, with plans for the commissioning, publishing and some production of the channel’s short-form content relocating to the city this year. It will also still be based in London.
Targeting 16 to 34-year-olds with a mix of comedy, documentaries and current affairs, BBC Three went online-only two years ago in a bid to save £30m.
A new youth team is also being set up, aiming to be the main suppliers of news content for the channel’s Daily Drop, an innovative mobile-first platform.
Joe Godwin, Director of BBC Midlands, said:
“We are continuing to build BBC Three’s presence at BBC Birmingham. We already have a team here producing content but bringing in these varied roles will make our region’s contribution to this incredible channel even greater. Birmingham is full of creative talent and I’m so pleased we are able to offer more opportunities for those people.”
The Mailbox in central Birmingham is already home to services including BBC WM, radio drama, The Archers, some Asian Network programmes, BBC Midlands Today and BBC Digital England.
