Grenade fished out of canal near Peaky Blinder pub in Small Heath
West Midlands Police placed a cordon near The Garrison pub on the corner of Witton Street and Garrison Lane after reports that a grenade had been discovered in a nearby canal on Sunday afternoon.
The location was quickly taped off by police as a bomb disposal team examined the scene.
The Garrison pub has become a focal point in the hit BBC-series Peaky Blinders which stars Cillian Murphy.
The pub is often featured in the stories with the Small Heath Peaky Blinders meeting, drinking, and planning their activities inside The Garrison.
On Sunday 7th June around 3pm, the location of the famous pub became the focus of real police activity as officers were called in after a call from a metal detectorist group that they had fished out a grenade inside a clump of metal near the canal that runs close to The Garrison pub.
Officers arrived promptly and secured the area and members of the public were kept at a safe distance while the area was searched.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police later said the grenade was “empty” and posed no threat to the public.
