A man is to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (9 February) charged with the murder of a mother from the Bordesley Green area of Birmingham.

Marena Shaban, a mother-of-four, was tragically stabbed to death near the entrance to her apartment in North Holme on 28 January.

The poor victim – described by her family as a “loving, caring and dedicated mother” – was brutally knifed to death and police immediately launched an investigation into the killing and appealed to the public for information.

West Midlands Police confirmed that a suspect was arrested on Monday 7 February.

A police spokesperson stated a man named Mohammed Arfan, aged 42, from Sladefield Road, Birmingham was charged with murder and the possession of an offensive weapon.

Arfan – who police say was known to the tragic victim – is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (9 February).
