Police have launched a manhunt after a young girl was grabbed around the waist by a masked man as she made her way to school on Tuesday morning (27 September).

The shocking incident happened on the grassy area in Sandy Lane, near Booths Lane, in Perry Barr at 8.15am.

The girl was on her way to school when she was grabbed from behind by a masked man who attempted to drag her away. The brave victim kicked out and screamed and the attacker ran off.

The perpetrator is described as around 20-years-old, tall and thin. He was wearing all black clothing as well as a black cap, leather gloves, big back boots and a mesh type mask. He was carrying a black rucksack.

The girl, aged 10, was shaken by the terrifying experience, but is safe and is receiving support to deal with her trauma. She has courageously spoken to detectives and supplied details about her disturbing ordeal.

Police officers are trawling local CCTV and enquiries are ongoing, an an appeal has been launched for anyone who was in the area and may have seen a man matching the description of the attacker to come forward and assist with the investigation before the criminal strikes again.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated that patrols have increased in the area and a schools link officer has attended the nearby school to offer reassurance and advice.
