A teenager who posed danger to the public has been arrested and charged after a firearm was recovered in Birmingham city centre on Saturday (24 June).

A police CCTV operator spotted two males walking near Pigeon Park in Birmingham Cathedral and spotted one of them brandishing a gun.

A police spokesperson said the two suspects were tracked on CCTV walking down Needless Alley and armed officers swooped into the area to capture them.

When the teenagers spotted the police officers they ran off, but following a short foot-chase one of the suspects was caught and taken into custody while the other teenager managed to escape the scene.

A firearm recovered nearby has been examined by ballistic experts who have confirmed it to be “a viable weapon”.

The 19-year-old who was arrested has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

The suspect has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday (26 June).
