Following uncertainty over the future of Birmingham Pride’s 2019 location, organisers have today revealed the site for the festival’s largest ever Main Stage.

Moving away from the car park next to the Loft Lounge where it has traditionally been housed, this year’s festival will see the Main Stage move to the larger capacity car park at the top of Bromsgrove Street. Sponsored by Virgin Trains, this year’s Main Stage is set to welcome headline acts such as Human League and Years and Years to Birmingham.

In keeping with its community theme, the Main Stage area will also feature a large food court and bear garden in addition to the classic funfair rides.

The director of Birmingham Pride, Lawrence Barton, commented saying, “This is by far our most ambitious festival site plan to date. There are lots of exciting changes, including a massive outdoor main stage where headliners Years & Years will perform an exclusive hour-long live set on the Saturday. The Human League are our headliners on the Sunday.

“We’re all extremely excited, I think visitors will see a noticeable difference this year, thanks to the significant investment that’s been made to help ensure they have an even greater festival experience.”

The Main Stage, and overall festival layout, will come as a relief to many after it being announced last year that Birmingham Pride may relocate to a new host site.

After consulting with over 6,000 Birmingham Pride visitors, however, the decision was made for the festival to remain in the city’s historic Gay Village – although with development in the area, there was no clarity in what capacity this would be. In utilising the spaces available within the Gay Village, Birmingham Pride has demonstrated its ability to adapt and evolve with any challenges it may face.

This year’s festival will see the return of the Cabaret Marquee, the Lose Angels Cabaret Stage, the Mixmag Dance Arena and the Future Stage. Festival goers will also be able to visit the brand new Lip-Sync Stage which will be housed in the middle floor of the Nightingale Club.

Birmingham Pride 2019 takes place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May. Tickets are available here
