A paedophile from West Bromwich, who sexually abused a young girl which left her “devastated”, has been jailed after the victim gave a detailed report of her traumatic ordeal.

Steven Nightingale, aged 50, was handed a two-and-a-half year jail sentence for the appalling crime which he carried out against his young victim one evening last summer.

The brave victim raised the alarm with a relative on the day the sexual abuse took place and police were immediately alerted.

Nightingale was arrested the following morning at his home in All Saints Way, West Bromwich.

The child sex abuser was found guilty of sexual activity with a minor at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court earlier this year, but the criminal appealed the conviction.

Nightingale’s appeal was dismissed at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday (17 June) and he was jailed for two-and-a-half years for his hideous sex crime against a minor.

He also given a sexual harm prevention order designed to protect children from him in the future, and ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

PC Adrian Jackson, from the Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: “This has had a devastating impact on the young girl and her family.

“Luckily, she was able to provide a detailed account of what happened which ensured we were able to bring Nightingale to justice.

“Thankfully, the young girl has been really well supported by her family and is now doing well.”
